They took minerals (ochre), ground it up, and used fat or water or possibly urine to make cakes.  They could then use them to draw on the walls like a crayon.  Other techniques included putting paint in a hollow bone or even just in their mouths and spraying it on the wall.  They also had brushes which may have been animal hair tied to a bone or stick.  I’ve also seen an imaginative idea where they may have taken a scrap of fur and tied it into a little bundle to make a kind of brush or sponge. They also used flint chisels to engrave the walls. And, of course, they used their bare hands to apply pigment. In some cases, where the cave walls are soft, they engraved the walls with their fingers.</p> <p>I also drew some cave maps today.
