I still worry that her clothing is a bit too modern… But she is really cute, yes?! :-)
The clothing has been the hardest part to design. I want to give Cro-Magnons the credit they deserve, but I also want my clothing designs to believable to my readers. My inspiration for their clothing comes from Inuit fashion and the illustrations in one of the books I bought while in France (Lascaux by Marylene Patou-Mathis and Christian Jegou).
Needles are a common artifact of the Upper Paleolithic. There is also evidence of woven fibers which may have been cloth! CLOTH! These people weren’t wearing draped skins tied with thongs. They wore tailored clothing made of leather and cloth. And if their artwork is any indicator, I’m sure their fashion was imaginative as well as functional.
